Dubai Cancels New Year's Celebrations
While Dubai is usually known for it's lavish parties frequented by A-list celeities, this New Year's Eve will be a downer in the United Arab Emirates.
To show solidarity with Palestinians subjected to the Israeli air attacks in the Gaza Strip, the country's prime minister, has ordered all New Year's celebrations in the city cancelled.
"According to Sheikh Mohammed's order," reads the release from official Emirates news agency WAM, "Duabi emirate will mark the New Year with a somber tone as a token of solidarity with the Palestinian people in general and Gaza strip in particular."
