Basra set for security handover from British to Iraqi army

Basra is Iraq's main oil export hub and home to the country's only major port. Basra is the last of four British-controlled provinces in Iraq. A recent BBC opinion poll found that 86% of the locals said they saw the British as a negative influence in the region. Only 2% thought their presence positive.
