Patrick plans to endorse Obama at Boston rally

Friday, October 19

BOSTON (AP) — Governor Deval Patrick has settled on a site to deliver his endorsement of presidential contender Barack Obama.

The two Democrats will appear at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday for a public rally. Gates open an hour earlier and guests are asked for security reasons not to bring bags, signs or banners. Obama, a senator from Illinois, is under Secret Service protection.

The state's first black governor announced this week he had decided to back the candidate vying to be the country's first black president. Patrick says Obama has the best chance to inspire the nation to re-engage in its government and civic life.
