Bill Moyers on Impeachment

On Friday, PBS aired a one-hour special on impeachment featuring Bruce Fein, Deputy Attorney General under Ronald Reagan and well-known Republican, and John Nichols, author of "The Genius of Impeachment" and well-known Democrat, both arguing for impeachment.
If there's one video to share with your friends and family who are still skeptical about impeachment, this is it. Fein and Nichols argue with passion and eloquence that the necessity of impeaching both Bush and Cheney is not about politics, but about salvaging our Constitutional form of government.
Watch the video at http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/07132007/profile.html
and pass it along!

Wear ORANGE FOR IMPEACHMENT

Orange has been chosen as the color to signify that you are for impeachment and against the war.
If you can, wear orange today in solidarity with those occupying Congressional offices to demand impeachment. And then, starting this Friday, join others around the country each Friday wearing or displaying orange.
A groundswell of people wearing orange in their daily lives, assisted and amplified by the voices of prominent people and musicians wearing and promoting orange on TV, radio and on stage at concerts, can break people out of this conundrum where millions are just furious but still paralyzed by the paralysis of the loyal opposition party and by the presidential elections' anaesthetizing effects.

Great quote back in Mark Twains day and very true many decades later.  It makes one wonder if the US and it's way of governing it's people will ever change...

Bush Alters Rules for CIA Interrogations

I also don't trust Bush with this.  So far, everything that he has done to "protect us from terrorists" has been used against Americans that are considered subversives because they're blogger's...especially bloggers that don't agree with it's governments criminal acts...

Skeptical human rights groups did not embrace Bush's effort.

Tom Malinowski, Washington director for Human Rights Watch, said the broad outlines in the public order don't matter. The key is in the still-classified guidance distributed to CIA officers.

As a result, the executive order requires the public to trust the president to provide adequate protection to detainees. "Given the experience of the last few years, they have to be naive if they think that is going to reassure too many people," he said.

aren't we breaking the Geneva Convention?  Read

Reference Guide to the Geneva Conventions

The five-page order reiterated many protections already granted under U.S. and international law. It said that any conditions of confinement and interrogation cannot include:

— Torture or other acts of violence serious enough to be considered comparable to murder, torture, mutilation or cruel or inhuman treatment.

— Willful or outrageous acts of personal abuse done to humiliate or degrade someone in a way so serious that any reasonable person would "deem the acts to be beyond the bounds of human decency." That includes sexually indecent acts.

— Acts intended to denigrate the religion of an individual.

The order does not permit detainees to contact family members or have access to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

In a decision last year aimed at the military's tribunal system, the Supreme Court required the U.S. government to apply Geneva Convention protections to the conflict with al-Qaida, shaking the legal footing of the CIA's program.

One Republican Senator's Sexual Hypocrisy Shocks Even Larry Flynt

This post, written by Howie Klein, originally appeared on Down With Tyranny!

Larry Craig (R-ID), Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Mitch McConnell (R-KY) must be crapping their pants. Maybe they should go borrow some diapers from Lieberman or from David Vitter, who liked wearing them while hookers in stiletto heels walked on his ass. Today the FBI released a lurid account of GOP slimeballs in paradise, with Republican briber Brent Wilkes and Republican bribee, former Congressman Randy "The Wrong Stuff" Cunningham (R-CA) bartering tax dollars for prostitutes in Hawaii.

But last night CNN's Larry King-- whose pablum-like show is not exactly where one goes for breaking news-- interviewed Hustler's Larry Flynt. Flynt says he's got the goods on 30 more members of Congress and the Bush Regime. He was particularly worked up over one particular Republican senator. Rumors are rampant that the private whose privates McConnell got kicked out of the Army for diddling has come forward. But there is also speculation that one of the fellas Larry Craig encountered-- closely-- in the Union Station men's room has decided to tell his story. I thought you might enjoy the CNN transcript:

Sen. DAVID VITTER (R), LOUISIANA: I want to again offer my deep, sincere apologies to all those I have let down and disappointed with these actions from my past. I am completely responsible and I'm so very, very sorry. No matter how long ago it was, I know this has hurt the relationship of trust I've enjoyed with so many of you and that I have a lot of work to do to rebuild that.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

KING: Hypocrisy running rampant on Capitol Hill. Senator Vitter was an outspoken of all things wrong, including prostitution and the like.

His wife also spoke at that press conference.

WENDY VITTER, WIFE OF SEN. DAVID VITTER (R-LA): To forgive is not always the easy choice. But it was and is the right choice for me. David is my best friend.

Last week, some people very sympathetically said to me I wouldn't want to be in your shoes right now. I stand before you to tell you very proudly I am proud to be Wendy Vitter.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

KING: Joining us now in San Francisco is Jeane Palfrey, the alleged madam of Washington, D.C. In Miami is her attorney, Montgomery Sibley; and her in Los Angeles, Larry Flynt, the publisher of Hustler magazine, who -- you broke this whole thing, right?

LARRY FLYNT, PUBLISHER, HUSTLER MAGAZINE: Yes. A lot of people are confused on that. The madam deserves the credit. My chief investigator was working on the ad he took out in the Post. And he had already had a relationship with her and...

KING: That ad is where you say you'll looking for who will give rewards?

FLYNT: Yes. And he got a phone number from her and he just dialed it up at random.

KING: And up came Vitter.

FLYNT: And up came Vitter.

KING: Jeane, first of all, what do you make of everything that's happened since this broke?

JEANE PALFREY, ALLEGED D.C. MADAM: Since the Vitter revelation broke?

KING: Yes.

PALFREY: Well, it's been quite crazy for me personally. I think it has played out somewhat the way I would have imagined. Senator Vitter was rather quiet for the last week or so. I was rather surprised that he did not resign but-- and came back to D.C. but then again that's his decision to do so.

KING: Mr. Sibley, where is the current legal status of your client?

MONTGOMERY SIBLEY, ATTORNEY FOR ALLEGED D.C. MADAM JEANE PALFREY: Well, greetings again from Miami, Larry. And...

KING: Hi.

SIBLEY: ...basically we're working on the legal issues before the judge which has to be resolved before the matter can go forward to trial. And we're hoping to have it dismissed before it ever gets there.

KING: Mr. Flynt, you recently told CNN that you function at a higher standard than the mainstream media when it comes to exposing scandal. What do you mean?

FLYNT: Well, absolutely. They-- the mainstream media holds me at a higher standard.

KING: They hold you higher?

FLYNT: Yes. If I release information like this on there, I've got to be right. Larry, if I'm wrong, they you step on me like a bug, you know.

KING: How many, Jeane-- true.

Jeane, how many people-- how many well-known people are in your book? PALFREY: Well, Larry, I absolutely have no idea. We estimate statistically there are approximately 20 to 30 to 100 possibilities. And this is based upon a rough estimate of 10,000 clients who used the service over the past 13 or so years from 1993 to 2006.

KING: You were providing the women, right? You weren't one yourself, or am I wrong?

PALFREY: No, that's correct. I ran the business long distance from San Francisco, the Bay Area.

KING: And were most of the clients in Washington?

PALFREY: They were all in Washington and some in Baltimore, the Washington, D.C./Baltimore Corridor and surrounding areas.

KING: Larry, without naming them, because we stand under legal protection here, are others coming?

FLYNT: Oh, yes. We've gotten 10 times more leads from the recent ad in the Post than we got during the Clinton impeachment. Unbelievable. We've got...

KING: Ten times more leads?

FLYNT: Yes.

KING: Does that mean you have phone numbers that you're following up?

FLYNT: Not just phone numbers.

KING: Names?

FLYNT: We've got good leads. We've got over 300 initially. And they're down to about 30 now which is solid.

KING: When are you going to print?

FLYNT: Well, the last thing now is we don't know if we want to let it to drip, drip, drip or we want to go with everything at once.

KING: You mean you might release 30 names at once?

FLYNT: A good possibility.

KING: Will we be-- I don't want to get into names yet. Will we be shocked?

FLYNT: Yes.

KING: Were you shocked?

FLYNT: I was shocked, especially at one senator but...

KING: One senator especially? FLYNT: Yes.

KING: Montgomery, are you shocked?

SIBLEY: Well, I'm shocked about two things, if I might, Larry. Please understand that this is one escort service out of approximately 60 in the Metro D.C. area. And indeed there are more escort services than there are McDonald's in D.C.

Now what's happened here is one service by the coincidence of Jeane being in California had all the calls recorded in the telephone records, and therefore were able to track the customers back through the record numbers. As the other escort services may or may not coming forward, we're going to get a real full picture of what have goes on in the District of Columbia environments.

KING: Do you know the names that Larry Flynt appears to know, Montgomery?

SIBLEY: Larry, I'm the custodian of the telephone records. And I've given probably three-quarters of them to Larry's agents. There's another set of records that are still being scanned and are going to be released in the next couple of days as well. I don't know the names and that's one of the reasons we released the list. Jeane needs the names for her defense because we have to bring these people in to testify as to the legal sexual behavior that was contracted and provided for.

KING: Are you going to give her the names, Larry?

FLYNT: We'll cooperate with Jeane in any way we possibly can. But I want to point something out very important. (inaudible) lied on TV when he apologized to the nation. He...

KING: Lied how?

FLYNT: ... well, he's using his wife and kids as a shield and said what happened. Those rumors out of Louisiana where he had a small brothel of hookers. That was not true. Well, it is true. I'm working with the major Louisiana media down there.

KING: You say he had a brothel of hookers in Louisiana?

FLYNT: There's been about five we've been able to track down so far. So you see what happens when you're a guy like him and you're not completely honest, see, he didn't even have to bring that up. And now that he's brought it up, everybody is all over it, including us.

KING: What bothers you the most is the hypocrisy, right?

(CROSSTALK)

FLYNT: It's the biggest threat to democracy.

KING: Speaking out on morals?

FLYNT: Yes.

KING: Jeane, does that bother you, when people speak out on morality and then act immorally?

PALFREY: It bothers me considerably. And the reason that I ultimately released the phone records, as I did, was this very point, the hypocrisy.

There's another point that needs to be mentioned as well, perhaps even more important, and that is the susceptibility of blackmail of certain clients having used the service over the years. Most people at the moment for obvious reasons are focusing upon the hypocrisy angle. However, intellectualize a bit, think about it a bit, and you'll come to the conclusion that we've come to, that there are possible people who have used the service who have become subjects and targets of blackmail. And many of these people being in D.C. most likely have security clearances.

KING: Thank you all very much. We'll be doing a lot more on this -- Jeane Palfrey, Montgomery Sibley, and Larry Flynt.

Howie Klein was president of his freshman class, drove to Afghanistan and Nepal, became the president of Reprise Records and started a blog called Down With Tyranny!. He's always hated tyrants.

Bush Abolishes Fifth Amendment

I sooo agree with Lee Rogers on this...

Bush Abolishes Fifth Amendment
07-19-2007
www.roguegovernment.com
Lee Rogers

George W. Bush who has already declared himself a dictator in the case of a national emergency has now issued an executive order that effectively destroys the Fifth Amendment.

A few days ago, Bush signed a new executive order in which he uses broad language to claim that he has the power to seize the property of any person who undermines efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq. The language in the executive order is broadly defined and does not specifically identify a specific group of individuals that the order applies to. It opens up the possibility of anti-war protesters and other political dissidents having their property confiscated for simply speaking out against the war.

Below is section 1 of the order. Click here for the full text of Bush’s order.

September 15th in Washington DC: Impeach Bush and Cheney

A message from lawyer and activist Ramsey Clark,

Help support the September 15th march in Washington

I am writing to you with the hope that you will help us organize and promote the September 15th March in Washington DC. Thousands of Americans from around the country will join together to demand the impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney and insist on the immediate end to the war in Iraq. September 15th is the date General David Petraeus is mandated to make a report to Congress on the progress of the so-called surge. The eyes of the national and international media will be focused on Washington DC at that time.

In the coming weeks we will be taking out newspaper ads, producing 500,000 leaflets, flyers, and stickers, and setting up outreach committees for the September 15th March in Washington all over the country. I hope we can count on you to help in this momentous effort. Time is short. The question is whether we have the will to act.

President Bush has said ...”the Iraqi people owe the American people a huge debt of gratitude.” Feeling unappreciated he has questioned “...whether or not there is a gratitude level that’s significant enough in Iraq.” Let us count the acts of the Bush Administration for which the Iraqi people should be grateful.

We need your help

How much will you give to impeach Bush?  Please act now, as if the future of the country depends on it.

It is essential that we raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to organize buses, to take out newspaper ads, to print 500,000 flyers, stickers, and posters, to cover the cost of sound and stage, and more. We can succeed but only with the help of you and thousands of other people.

Please make a donation today by clicking this link -- you can make an online donation or send a check.

—US violence has brought death to hundreds of thousands of Iraqi’s and physical injury to millions.

—Hundreds of billions of dollars in property destruction caused by U.S. aggression will take decades after peace to rebuild.

—2.2 million Iraqi’s, nearly one in ten, have fled their country to foreign exile, refugee camps and a doubtful future while at least 2 million more have fled their homes and communities to furtive lives of quiet desperation, to inadequate housing within Iraqi, without jobs or schools.

—3/4's of the people do not have safe drinking water.

—Iraqi’s internationally acclaimed and free health care system is a shambles.

—Since Shock and Awe began in March 2003 infant mortality in Iraq has increased radically to the highest death rate of all nations.

—Iraq is the most unstable country in the world.

—The sight and sound of violent death has created a pervasive state of constant devastating fear.

For this Iraq should be grateful?

It must be clear to every informed and thinking person that President Bush has no concern for human suffering, truth, freedom, democracy, peace, justice, human rights, or the Constitution of the United States. His words and acts are designed only to increase his personal power and achieve his personal agenda and that of those who share his goals and hatred.

To this end, he will destroy relations with Russia by placing missile defense systems on its border inside Poland and in the Czech Republic, he will impose Wolfowitz on the World Bank, and he will retain Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General.

President Bush intends for a major American military force to remain in Iraq for the foreseeable future even if it destroys that country utterly and turns the whole world that cares about justice against the United States. Look only at the $600 million dollar U.S. Embassy built in the heart of Baghdad and nearing completion. He sees withdrawal from Iraq as the loss of control of its oil followed by Saudi Arabia and the Emirates with their oil and the expansion of Iranian influence.

President Bush seeks regime change in Iran and Syria and the perpetuation of repressive dictatorships in Egypt, Pakistan and elsewhere in the region. There is a high risk he will order an attack on Iran. Having achieved regime change of the fairly elected government of Palestine, he seeks permanent isolation and decimation of Gaza and tightening control of the West Bank through funding and arming of a minority faction there, ending the hope for a viable, free and independent Palestine.

He plans to expand his war against Islam that will involve the U.S. in a losing military conflict on Muslim soil for years to come with unforeseeable, but devastating costs and consequences.

To continue these policies he will further diminish the freedom, privacy and civil liberties of the American people and expand the domination of wealth and militarism over the economy and body politic of our country.

He has committed the most serious crimes against humanity from wars of aggression and threats of more to political corruption and the corruption of justice at home unprecedented in our history.

Impeachment now is imperative. If, We the People fail to force accountability for these crimes this fall, President Bush will have a free ride with impunity through the Presidential election year of 2008, when the Constitutional duty to impeach will succumb to political pressure, to the end of his second term in January 2009.

The impeachment of Bush, Cheney and the other civil officers of the United States is not merely the best way to bring our troops home from Iraq and prevent new aggressions, it is the sure way and the only way. President Bush, who assaults nations in the name of democracy has proclaimed himself the one man “decider” for the fate of our country and its victims. For him, democracy is an election controlled by wealth every four years and dictatorship in between.

If we fail, the world will see that the American people are powerless to effectively oppose Bush policies that have angered and embittered billions of people, making enemies of most nations, or worse, that the American people support Bush policies. How else could such lawless and destructive policies be tolerated?

We do have the will to act and by working together we can make the difference. Please act now, as if the future of the country depends on it.

We can succeed but only with the help of you and thousands of other people. It is essential that we raise hundreds of thousands of dollars right now. Please make a donation today by clicking this link -- you can make an online donation or send a check.

We can organize, arouse public opinion and raise funds over the summer to bring a massive turnout on September 15 in Washington DC demanding Impeachment and an end to the war. If you want to be listed as an endorser and supporter of the September 15th demonstration, you can do so by clicking this link.

We will work in key Congressional Districts, constituents to their Representative, to insure action on Impeachment. We will involve people in every walk of life, working together to stop the runaway lawlessness of the Bush Administration before we are so inextricably intertwined in aggression, war, occupation and alienation that it will take decades before we can pursue policies that serve humanity, rejecting militarism, domination and exploitation.

We need to know how receptive the American people are to an all out effort in this moment of maximum moral and political crisis to personal commitment to participation in a six month campaign to impeach Bush/Cheney, et al.

Are you? Let us know now whether you will join this campaign. Let us know how you can organize support, enlisting others, staging demonstrations across the nation, raising and contributing funds for massive T.V., newspaper, computer and direct telephone and mail campaigns.

I hope you will join us and make this effort a priority so we can persevere in common cause.

Sincerely,
Ramsey Clark

Bush makes a little girl cry...

From Raw Story

Although his biting sarcasm in response to unfriendly questions can make members of the White House press corps grumble under their breath, President Bush got a different reaction from a 13-year-old girl who asked him about immigration during a forum in Ohio.

The Washington Times reports Jessica Hackerd was left in tears after Bush gave her a wry "yeah, thanks" in response to her query, drawing laughter from the crowd of 400 in Brecksville, Ohio Tuesday. Bush immediately began to backpedal when he saw the reaction from Hackerd, who told the Times she was crying because she is very shy and was nervous questioning the president.

"No, it's a great question. No, I appreciate that," Bush said, before giving a more-than-1,100-word answer about the death of his immigration bill.

The 13-year-old, who was at the forum with her parents and younger sister, continued to wipe tears from her eyes for several minutes, the Times reported, and Bush again tried to encourage the young girl.

"It's a great question by the way, and I'm glad you asked it," he said.

After the appearance, a Bush aide ushered Jessica and her family backstage to meet with the president.

"He said it was really brave of me to do that and he said he probably wouldn't have been able to do that," Jessica told the Times. "And he said it was the first time anybody had asked him about [immigration] since it happened."

Stop Bush's Anti-Gay Surgeon General Nominee

Dr. James Holsinger's record seems to demonstrate that he is uninterested in the best scientific information available; instead, he allows his anti-gay bias to inform his medical judgments. In past writings he has compared reproductive organs to plumbing parts and he seems to believe homosexuality is a "lifestyle" choice that should be "cured."

This is the man Bush wants to make our next Surgeon General?

Voice your outrage today, by writing your Senators. Tell them to vote NO on Holsinger's nomination.

The Damning Evidence Against Dick Cheney

The time has come to hold Dick Cheney accountable for his crimes against the people of the United States and the world - and the Constitution of the United States.

We have formed a brand new partnership with many great progressive groups and Brave New Films, the creators of powerful documentaries like Iraq for Sale, OutFoxed, Wal-Mart, and Uncovered - the War on Iraq.

And we have just released a powerful short video showing Cheney's most bald-faced lies about Iraq and Iran.

Please watch the video, sign the petition, and pass it along to your friends.

The time for accountability is now - not after Cheney leaves office. Thanks to your efforts, 14 Democrats already support H.Res. 333, Articles of Impeachment for Dick Cheney. With a little more effort, we'll get enough Democrats on board to start impeachment hearings in the House Judiciary Committee. And when the American people see the evidence in our video with their own eyes, they will join us in demanding accountability for Dick Cheney.

Together, we can impeach Dick Cheney.

Bob Fertik

Dear activists, colleagues and friends,

Impeach. That's right, we said the "I" word. And you should be saying it too -- to your family, your friends, your neighbors, your pets and the hearty 26% of Americans who somehow still believe the Bush/Cheney team more worthy of sitting in the Oval Office than an undisclosed location stripped of all authority to further damage the country we love.

You'll want to say it even more after watching our video with the evidence for impeachment right there:
http://mail.democrats.com/CT00019202MTY3MjA0MwAA.HTML?D=2007-07-06

Dick Cheney has been a malevolent force on the checks and balances of American government for over six years. He has subverted government processes to lead us into this tragedy in Iraq, and is now seeking to do the same with Iran. Two countries, mind you, that he did business with while CEO of Halliburton.

We are at an important moment in American history. For if we don't take action in light of the High Crimes and Misdemeanors committed by one Richard Cheney, we might as well throw the "I" word away. Because there will never be a time when it is more justified.

Castro: US is Still a 'Killing Machine'

July 01,2007 | HAVANA -- Fidel Castro said Sunday that the U.S. government continues to be a "killing machine" after revelations that nearly 50 years ago it tried to use American mobsters to kill him with poison pills.

"The empire has created a real killing machine made up not only of the CIA and its methods," the Cuban leader wrote in the latest of his nearly daily essays, published Sunday in the Communist Youth newspaper Juventud Rebelde.

President Bush "has constructed powerful and expensive superstructures of intelligence ... that lead to war, injustice, hunger and death everywhere on the planet," Castro wrote.

CIA documents made public last week described the agency's recruitment of a former FBI agent in August 1960 to use mobsters and poison pills to kill Castro. Information about the plot was among hundreds of pages of CIA internal reports, known as "the family jewels."

The plan was scrapped after the failed CIA-sponsored Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba in April 1961, and U.S. authorities retrieved the poison pills.

The 80-year-old Castro has not been seen in public in almost a year since handing power to a provisional government headed by his younger brother while he recovers from intestinal surgery.

Communist Cuba's parliament on Friday unanimously approved a resolution saying that the 47-year-old plot to assassinate Castro still reflects the reality of U.S. policy toward the island.

"The conduct of the Bush government clearly shows its intention to keep employing the worst possible tactics against Cuba," it declared.
