New images show abuse at Abu Ghraib

February 16, 2006 The Guardian
An Australian television station broadcast yesterday what it said were previously unpublished images of abuse of Iraqi prisoners in Abu Ghraib prison.
The Special Broadcasting Service's Dateline current affairs programme said the images had been recorded at the same time as those of US soldiers abusing detainees in the Iraqi prison that caused outrage in 2004. Some suggest further abuse such as killing, torture and sexual humiliation, it said.
The photographs and video images, which were rebroadcast by Arab television stations, show prisoners, some bleeding or hooded, bound to beds and doors, sometimes with a smiling guard beside them. They include a pile of five naked detainees photographed from the rear, and a dog straining at a leash close to the face of a crouching man wearing a bright orange jumpsuit.

Why Iran's enrichment rattles the West | csmonitor.com

Why Iran's enrichment rattles the West

Once it masters the difficult technique, a nuclear bomb is not far away.

By Peter Grier Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor

WASHINGTON – To begin enriching raw uranium into fissile material, as Iran now may have done, is to take a fateful step down the path of nuclear capability.
That's because it is perhaps the most difficult aspect of developing a nuclear power - or weapons - program. Centrifuge enrichment is a sort of technological ballet, requiring thousands of thin tubes to spin at outrageous speeds, each feeding a thin stream of uranium gas along to a neighboring tube, until the gas reaches the end of the cascade line.

Tell Congress that we want peace

Please take a moment to tell Congress to stop funding the war in Iraq and to bring the troops home. (And then forward it to your friends.) We need to change course in Iraq. Please send Congress a message by signing on to the American Friends Service Committee's AFSC

Please sign this and send it to ten more people. We really need to end this war in Iraq. Too many people are dying for the wrong reasons.
Peace & Bright Blessings;
soul

Dick Cheney "accidentally" shot someone?

I just saw a story on CNN that stated Dick Cheney shot a hunting buddy while on a hunting trip in Texas. The story also reported that VP Cheney is staying with his friend while he recovers from the gunshot wounds inflicted by Cheney...
Harry Whittington, 78, was "alert and doing fine" after Cheney sprayed Whittington with shotgun pellets on Saturday at the Armstrong Ranch in south Texas, said property owner Katharine Armstrong.
Armstrong said Cheney turned to shoot a bird and accidentally hit Whittington. She said Whittington was taken to Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital by ambulance.
Cheney's spokeswoman, Lea Anne McBride, said the vice president was with Whittington, a lawyer from Austin, Texas, and his wife at the hospital on Sunday afternoon.
Why isn't Mr. Cheney with the police answering questions? Wouldn't that happen to one of us if we accidentally shot a friend while on a hunting trip? I know alot of people that hunt...and they all say that if your buddy shoots you "accidentally"...it's no accident.

Hate Her...

Anne Coulter, wearing her
self desribed 'slutty-look'.
Why hate her? Anne Coulter, is the opposite of just about everything I stand for, care about, and live my life for. It's just a personal opinion of mine that a slutty, white, rich, ivy-league, right wing, pompous bitch should shut up when she has no idea how the majority of the country lives...she only knows her sheltered, whitebread, uppity-upper class lifestyle. That is not reality for the majority of the planet.
I'd like to say one thing to Ms. Coulter...
None of us want to kick your skinny rich ass.
Personally, I hate to fight. Debates are interesting to partake in.
When it comes to evil, self-absorbed, right-wing republicans
like Anne Coulter, I think I could kick butt.

Everyone said they were sorry...

Since I am not a religious fundalmentalist I have a difficult time understanding the violence behind the recent Mohammad cartoons incident. Maybe, I could understand it better if Muslims where rioting over the death of thousands of innocent Iraqi, Afghanstinian, and Palestinian people slaughtered over land and religion. But, over cartoons? I know they were blasphamous to you, and it is very sad that the cartoonists didn't take this into consideration while they were creating them. So many different points of view at Blogger's News Network.

"The Muslim group that spearheaded criticism of a Danish newspaper for publishing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad said Tuesday it accepted the paper's apology.
A spokesman for Denmark's Islamic Faith Community, Kasem Ahmad, said on Danish radio Tuesday that
"we will clearly and articulately thank the prime minister and Jyllands-Posten for what they have done." "

Also to make sure all is right or wrong, as the case may be, the Organization of Islamic Conferences, is investigating what they believe to be a “disrespect for belief.”

"Why did Jyllands-Posten publish the cartoons? The Copenhagen Post explains: “Jyllands-Posten called for and printed the cartoons by various Danish illustrators, after reports that artists were refusing to illustrate works about Islam, out of fear of fundamendalist retribution. The newspaper said it printed the cartoons as a test of whether Muslim fundamentalists had begun affecting the freedom of expression in Denmark.” -from The Newspaper Index

Hate is Fear-Fear is Hate

Muslims in Turkey respond to the Danish cartoons with open expressions
of Jew-hatred.
A crowd of about 200 people pelted the Austrian Embassy in Tehran with petrol bombs and stones on Monday in a protest over the publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed.

We have tried to keep all of you informed about the status of the service and our efforts to correct the problems. Unfortunately, today's problems were widespread enough such that we were unable to provide ongoing updates. One of the things we'll be doing in the short term is to come up with ways to prevent this."

Bono calls on U.S. to give part of budget to poor - Politics - MSNBC.com

"Bono calls on U.S. to give part of budget to poor"
U2 frontman cites religious text at breakfast attended by Bush, top leaders
EXCLUSIVELY ON MSNBC.COM

"Quoting from Islamic, Jewish and Christian texts, rock star Bono called Thursday for the U.S. government to give an additional 1 percent of the federal budget to the world's poor.
Speaking to President Bush and members of Congress at the National Prayer Breakfast, the U2 front man said it's unjust to keep poor people from selling their goods while singing the virtues of the free market, to hold children to ransom for the debts of their grandparents and to withhold medicines that would save lives.
"God will not accept that,"he said. "Mine won't. Will yours?""

Study Ties Political Leanings to Hidden Biases

'If anyone in Washington is skeptical about these findings, they are in denial,' he said. 'We have 50 years of evidence that racial prejudice predicts voting. Republicans are supported by whites with prejudice against blacks. If people say, 'This takes me aback,' they are ignoring a huge volume of research.'

Gov. shuts W. Virginia coal mines on safety worry

I wish Joe Manchin would run for president.
Alot of people would like that. I like him...
ABC News: Gov. shuts W. Virginia coal mines on safety worry

Governor Manchin reminds me of Jimmy Carter. I like Jimmy Carter. I think both men are devoted to helping others and serving the people as the paid public servants they realize they are. But, also because they love doing what they do.

Bush & Co: The State of the Union...

I wonder if Bush danced a little dance after his "State of the Union" address lastnight? I know that he's lying to try and placate us all. But, arresting people for wearing a t-shirt he doesn't like? Do we really have freedom if you can't even wear a t-shirt to an event without getting asked to leave, or worse yet arrested?
I can't even believe that he had the nerve to say, "America is addicted to oil." All, I have to say is that if I'm addicted to oil, then Mr. Bush must be my dealer.
